Welcome in templin
Templin ...a natural history
Nestled in the gently rolling hills of the Uckermark you will find the historic city of Templin, encircled by its completely preserved city wall, dating from the middle ages with gothic style stone gates.
You can circle Templin by walking around the city wall which is 1735m long. The jewels of the wall are three gothic style stone gates and the 48 “Wiekhäusern” (watchtowers). The oldest building in Templin is the gothic St.-Georgen-Kapelle from the 14th Century with its beautiful vault and late gothic winged altar. St.-Maria-Magdalenen-Kirche, a three-nave baroque structure on an even older foundation and the baroque town hall dating from 1751 and set in the middle of the beautiful market square. The TourismusServiceTemplin offers guided tours of the historic city centre by day or night. If, after exploring the city, you want to relax and fortify yourself, we recommend one of our cosy restaurants with their fish or game specialities.

Relaxation for body and soul
With the opening of the “Natur-Therme Templin” (Thermal Baths) in November 2000 the city became recognized as a place for healing thermal baths.

Surrounding the “Natur-Therme Templin” a landscaped park with many opportunities for differing experiences has arisen. Arrive and Dive On In
In Templin’s surroundings there are all sorts of opportunities to experience nature very intensely.
Two of the most interesting parts of nature in Brandenburg are the “Naturpark Uckermärkische Seen” (Lakes of the Uckermark) and the “Biospärenreservat Schorfheide-Chorin (national park) which welcome you to enjoyable and relaxing walks. 180 lakes, rivers and canals are ideal for swimming, canoeing, sailing surfing or diving, or we invite you to experience this from one of our guided boat trips. If diving into the water life of the Uckermark is for you, information about our special offers and arrangements is available. For the dedicated angler there is a wide variety of fish waiting to be caught, such as pike, perch, pikeperch and catfish. Gliding in your boat over the lakes you will, with a little bit of luck, be able to observe eagles, kingfishers or herons. The call of Europe’s largest breeding population of cranes can be heard throughout the Buchheide forest, and in almost every corner of the Uckermark’s forests you will find traces of beavers, known in this area as “Meister Bockert”. From the viewing platform near Annenwalde you can get a glimpse of their habitat.

Hiking, Cycling and "Draisine"
Around 39km of well-marked walking paths will lead you through a beautiful landscape formed in the ice age. Along naturally unpaved paths you can wander through beech, pine and mixed forests, as well as meadows and marshes, and small villages with captivation churches built with stones from the ice age. Our maps are ideal for accompanying you as you walk or cylce around the area surrounding Templin,
discovering its beautiful sights, both big and small. Since 2004 the tourist has been able to enjoy the beautiful landscape from the newly paved cycle track. As well, this track serves as the connection between two long-distance cycle tracks (Berlin-Copenhagen and Oder-Neiße). It is also ideal for skaters and rollerbladers. A slightly different way of cycling is to experience the “Draisine” (see picture on page 41); cycling along an abandoned railroad track. This exceptional experience is waiting for you on the 30km stretch of track between Templin and Fürstenberg. It’s easy! Just as if you are on a bicycle, the “Draisine” works with pedal power! Take your time and take a break, lifting the “Draisine” from the tracks every now and then to explore the landscapes and sights on both sides of the tracks. If you feel like being your own conductor, just book a trip on the “Draisine” at the TourismusService Templin and experience this very special feeling.

Old Stones and New Art
Next to Boitzenburg’s former nunnery you can visit a three storey, turbine driven water mill. The ruins of the Cistercian nunnery are located at the entrance of the “Tiergarten” park with its 300-900 year old oak trees. The newly renovated castle of Boitzenburg also invites you to visit; the castle offers a wide range of activities for families with children. Making the day trip to Boitzenburg is worth it! On the ‘artist’s trail’ you will find exhibitions in Templin’s Multi-Cultural Centre or in galleries in the little villages of Bebersee and Annenwalde.
In particular, the glassworks in Annenwalde is worth seeing, and, of course, the “Kirchlein im Grünen” in Alt Placht is a must! Here you will discover a real gem that shows the unity between nature and culture surrounded by mighty 500 year old linden trees. The “Fachwerkkirche” (Half-timbered church building) former chapel of the Placht estate is evidence of Hugenot immigration because of its architectural resemblance to half-timbered buildings in Northern France.
